Strategic Leadership

Skills, knowledge and experience from the creative arts or education sectors is highly sought. It is not essential for this trustee to have direct experience of education but, if they have, it will be as a senior leader in the primary sector and most likely have had experience of supporting or challenging across several schools with an understanding of school performance data and possibly the inspection framework

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 – 24 months:

to reinforce good governance through the appointment of additional trustees and to ensure effective succession planning for strong governance;

to embed the trust’s procedures and practices;

to ensure that the trust’s growth strategy is measured and realistic and does not distract from the current schools

What’s involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, ‘eyes on, hands off’ commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6-8 hours’ time per month. Candidates will also be expected to attend up to three sub-committee meetings per year (to be confirmed depending on skills, interest and experience).

You will be responsible for:

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and

Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent
