Severn Academies Educational Trust in Worcestershire seeks two non-executive directors/Trustees to join its board. Board meetings are held DY11 7WF when safe to do so.

The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at single-academy and multi-academy trusts (SATs and MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.

The opportunity

Severn Academies Educational Trust is a sponsoring multi academy trust supporting students and their families from nursery provision all the way through to post 16 study, across the Kidderminster area. One of the trust’s academies received Outstanding at its most recent Ofsted inspection; a further 5 of the trust’s schools were assessed as Good, and the last school received a rating of Requires Improvement. All of the trusts schools are led by highly skilled Headteachers/Principals, supported by their local governing bodies, who are passionate about ensuring all the trust’s students enjoy their learning and achieve the best educational standards. Schools within SAET work closely together to share resources and develop practices so that its pupils can become the best that they can be.

The board seeks two business leaders with board level experience in:

·        IT/Digital Transformation and

·        Procurement or

·        Multi-site Health and Safety and

·        Estates/facilities management.

 

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 – 24 months:

1.    To be able to effectively manage a growth strategy that allows for robust and sustainable school improvement alongside realising economies of scale.

2.    To ensure that governance at all levels within the trust is effective, challenging and supportive.

3.    To effectively manage IT procurement and effective strategies of utilisation or to effectively manage and support the Health & Safety process throughout the trust.

 

What’s involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, ‘eyes on, hands off’ commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6-8 hours’ time per month. At Severn Academies Educational Trust there are 6 board meetings per academic year.

You will be responsible for:

·        Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

·        Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and

·        Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our ambassador network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role.
